Welcome to our newest Board Members!

The Howell Foundation wish to welcome two of our newest Board Members – Abigail D’Agostino and Carole Tuggey! Their collective experience will be a great asset to Howell’s mission.

“I am passionate about empowering women in their paths towards healthy living and doing so, through valid and credible research and resources.”


Abigail D'Agostino - One of our newest Board Members
Abigail D’Agostino is a medical professional with over 13 years of wide ranging experience in the healthcare industry and has demonstrated proven success with increasing levels of professional responsibility. Ms. D’Agostino obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Registered Nurse license and Public Health Nursing certificate in 2002 and sought medical-surgical and critical care clinical experience for several years where she won an award for clinical excellence and obtained her critical care certification.
Ms. D’Agostino further advanced her education and earned her Master’s in Business Administration and then became certified in Plant-Based Nutrition. Ms. D’Agostino is the Director of Patient Care Services for LightBridge Hospice & Palliative Care and is an Associate Consultant with Weatherbee Resources, Inc. She is a volunteer speaker for the American Heart Association and is the founder and CEO of Nurses for Health, a 501c3 tax exempt, not-for-profit corporation, dedicated to improving the health of the community-at-large, through education.

Howell Foundation for Women’s Health Research in any way that I can.  I feel that the work of educating young scientists through your scholarship program is an important and valuable service to our community at large, and I am honored to be a part of it!”

Carole Tuggey - one o four newest Board Members
Carole Tuggey has a BA from Pomona College and conducted graduate studies at UCLA and UCSD.  She co-founded and served as CFO of Tuggey Interior Design from1969-2006.  She continues her work by volunteering in her community.   Mrs. Tuggey brings to the Howell Foundation ample experience as a board member and as a community volunteer.  An Officer and Member of Soroptimist International of La Jolla for 30+ years, she has held positions on the following local boards:
• St. Paul’s Senior Services for a total of 6 years; chairing the Facilities and Nominating Committees
• Soroptimist International Desert Coast Region for a 2 year term;  (50+ clubs), and later in Soroptimist International of la Jolla, where she was elected President twice
• Currently completing 3 year service on the Board of Directors (Vestry) at Good Samaritan Episcopal Church
• Board Member at UCSD School of Medicine Associates
• Salvation Army Woman of Dedication
• Grant writer for Assistance League of Rancho San Dieguito
• Grant writer/coordinator for successful grant won by Soroptimist International of La Jolla to help deal with human trafficking in San Diego County

According to our Chair, Dr. Banka, “These women bring enthusiasm and a broad spectrum of talents. They are remarkable additions to our Board of  Directors.”

About the Doris A. Howell Foundation:
The Doris A. Howell Foundation for Women’s Health Research is committed to keeping the women we love healthy, advancing women’s health through research and educating women to be catalysts for improving family health in the community.
The organization does so by funding scholarships to scientists researching issues affecting women’s health;   providing a forum for medical experts, scientists, doctors, researchers, and authors to convey the timely information on topics relevant to women’s health and the health. of their families through its Lecture and Evening Series, and by funding research initiatives that will create women’s health awareness and advocacy in the community.
